About John W. Mehall
Summit Cinematics was built on a simple idea: that the natural world deserves to be documented with patience, precision, and respect.
From an early age, I’ve been drawn to systems that require both technical discipline and creative vision. Watchmaking taught me patience and mechanical understanding — how dozens of tiny components must work in harmony for something larger to function flawlessly. Whether regulating a movement or aligning a dial, the work demands stillness, accuracy, and a steady hand.
Clarinet performance strengthened a different skill: control and nuance. Music requires listening as much as playing — understanding timing, tone, and atmosphere. That sensitivity to rhythm and subtle detail now carries directly into how I approach light, movement, and composition in the field.
My background in computers and digital systems adds another layer. From editing workflows to file management, color grading, and system design, I understand both the creative and technical sides of production. Photography doesn’t end when the shutter closes — it continues through refinement, calibration, and intentional presentation.
But above all, Summit Cinematics exists because of my love for the outdoors.
As a Colorado native, I grew up surrounded by landscapes that feel both immense and fragile. Alpine ridgelines, wind-shaped trees above timberline, and the quiet of high-elevation mornings have shaped not only my photography but my perspective. These places operate on their own timeline — carved by weather, light, and time rather than by people. That is what I aim to document.
Summit Cinematics is not just a photography brand. It is a long-term commitment to capturing the natural world — especially the spaces above ten thousand feet — with accuracy, intention, and reverence.
Every image is approached the same way I approach watchmaking: with precision.
Every project is approached the same way I approach music: with feel.
And every landscape is approached with respect.
This is Summit Cinematics.
About Our Products and Process
Our Products
All of Summit Cinematics' products are made in Printful facilities. This allows for all products to be produced only as people buy them, preventing overproduction. This is better for the planet, but also our team. It allows our team to continue to spend time on improving the parts of our business that you interact with, instead of behind the scenes. We sell framed posters that come with three frame color options and a signature pre-applied to the print. All of our canvas prints come unframed and also have a pre-applied signature making your print authentic. All of these options come in a wide range of sizes. The smallest framed poster is 8x10 with the largest varying on the photo. All canvas comes in the smallest size of 6x6 and as usual the largest size depends on the photo. All of our products aim to please, and if you could support us by donating or purchasing that would be great!
Our Business Model
Summit Cinematics runs off of a very effortlessly genius system. As soon as you put in a order from our custom built site, the order will be automatically placed in to Printful’s system. The order is also placed in the Summit Cinematics dashboard so all of our team can check orders and help customers with their orders. (among other things) After that Printful will fulfill and ship your order straight to you. This system allows for zero overproduction and maximum efficiency as most orders take two-three days to be fulfilled and shipped. If you would like to help us improve this system, please consider donating or buying.
